Forecasting wind gusts in complex terrain
WebFeb 1, 2012 · We propose that a probabilistic wind and gust speed forecast be issued in three parts, similar to a precipitation forecast. That is, at a given location, a forecast would be issued for the following three quantities: daily maximum wind speed; probability of gust; and conditional on gust being observed, the daily maximum gust speed. WebJul 1, 2024 · Accurately forecasting the weather and winds over complex terrain has important applications, such as forecasting for wind farms, fire-spread modelling, estimation of pollutant and pathogen dispersion, and impacts on infrastructure, such as high-voltage overhead electrical grids and long-span bridges.
